In the past few years the World Poker Tour has been really living up to its name with brand new events being created all over the world. One of the newer events is the WPT Amneville, which took place in France at the Seven Casino d'Amnéville.

The 6-max final table started on Day 5 with Scott Baumstein in the chip lead, a lead that he’d had since Day 2. Talk about a phenomenal achievement! When cards were finally dealt at he final table, Baumstein showed how he had kept the chip lead for so long: he loved to give action and play plenty of pots.

Even though there was a ton of action, the first bust took over an hour to happen. First Adrien Allain doubled up through Baumstein. The chip lead was exchanged several times as Allain and Ouin played a long heads-up match. However, over time Allain grinded Ouin out and finished him off with pocket tens versus K9o. Winning this hand meant €310,633 and a WPT title for Adrien Allain!

Cinémathèque Française houses the largest archive of films, movie documents and film related projects in the world. The collections origin seems to stem from the intensive efforts of Henri Langlois in the 1930s to collect and preserve films. Langlois acquired one of the largest collections in the world by the beginning of World War II, only to have it nearly wiped out by the Germans in occupied France. They ordered the destruction of films made prior to 1937. Langlois and his friends smuggled a huge number of films and documents to unoccupied France to protect them until the end of the war.

The Cinémathèque Française holds daily screenings of a variety of films from all over the world.

If you're strolling through Paris this weekend, stop by one of the most mythical places in all of the city: La Coupole. Located at Boulevard du Montparnasse, this brasserie was created in 1927 and remained of the hottest sights in the city to see and be seen until the 1960's. People like Josephine Baker, Simone de Beauvoir, Jean-Paul Sartre and many other artists and celebrities of the times used to frequent this place for a drink and dance in the basement dance hall. La Coupole has most recently been redecorated with artists' sculptures and paintings.

French Heritage Days

Every year since 1984, on the third weekend of September, the Journées du Patrimoine (Heritage Days) takes place. For those two days, many buildings that are usually closed to the public, open their doors for the world to see. About 15,000 architectural masterpieces can be visited throughout France. Some, like L’Elysée, (the home of the President of the Republic, pictured above) are more visited than others.

The house was built between 1718 and 1722 as the residence of Henri-Louis de la Tour d'Auvergne (1679-1753), the Comte d'Evreux. It was named the Élysée when the Duchess of Bourbon owned it in 1797 and since 1874, has been the official residence of all the French Presidents.

For a trip through the heart of "Parisians Paris", try a romantic tour of Canal Saint-Martin, Paris' second waterway.
The canal was opened in 1825 after Napoleon ordered the artificial waterway dug to supply the city with water. However, by the 1960's, traffic had dwindled to a trickle and the canal narrowly escaped being filled in with paved over for a highway.
The tree-lined canal is an idyllic sight and a popular destination for Parisians and tourists alike who watch the barges navigate the series or locks and bridges.
And a note for French film buffs: the canal is featured in the 2001 movie Amélie, in which Amélie Poulain enjoys skipping stones at the locks of the canal.

A Grand Parisian Manse

Much like all of Paris, walking around the grounds of Hôtel de Sully is like stepping back into the past. Located in the historic Marais district, it was built by Jean Androuet du Cerceau in 1625 and purchased ten years later by Sully, the former minister of Henri IV. There are two courtyards, the first paved with cobblestones, the second a quiet grassy area and garden featuring statues representing the four elements and the seasons.
The building is currently occupied by the Caisse Nationale des Monuments Historiques et des Sites. It is also home to an extensive bookshop with items focusing on Paris.

Autumn in Paris

Post Impressionist painter Mentor Huebner depicts the season here in his painting Autumn in Paris, (1961). Classic Paris

The arch honors those who fought for France and features all the names of generals and wars fought. Measuring 165 ft in height, it is the second largest arch in existence. Aviator Charles Godefroy flew his Nieuport biplane through it three weeks after the end of World War I.

Looking for something new in Paris? Try the Musée du Quai Branly. The museum is a vast showcase of non-European cultures devoted to "bridging the gap" between civilizations. Arènes de Lutèce

This Roman arena, where wild beasts and gladiators once did battle, once accommodated 10,000 seated spectators. Visible as late as the 12th century, it fell under rubble until the site was rediscovered in 1869. If you've never caught this French celebration, you must. The show is stunning. Not quite like us Americans are used to on Fourth of July, Bastille Day isn't a parade of high school marching bands and baton twirlers, but a showing of military might.

The grand finale, apparently a first for the 14th of July, was seven parachuters carrying flags of France, the EU and the UN who landed in the center of the celebration.

Walk along the Banks of the Seine near Asnières

This print, titled Walk along the Banks of the Seine near Asnières, was painted by van Gogh in 1887 when he lived in Asnières.

Asnières is a suburb 5 miles out of the center of Paris and was a popular artist's commune at the turn of the 20th century. Many impressionists, including Gauguin, Renoir and van Gogh, flocked to this idyllic community along the Seine to live and set up their easels.

Banks of the Seine, Vétheuil

Depicted here by Claude Monet, the Seine has countless landmarks along its banks. The Seine is captured here by the artist Alfred Sisley, depicting one of the more than three dozen bridges inside the city that cross the river. The Phantom of Garnier

The grand staircase of the Opéra Garnier shines in regal Neo-Baroque architecture.

Finished in 1875, construction of the operahouse was plagued by numerous setbacks, including swampy ground that the operahouse was built upon. A subterranean lake flows beneath it.

In 1896, a piece of the chandelier fell, killing one. This inspired Gaston Leroux to write his classic Gothic novel, The Phantom of the Opera.

A Tower with a View

Visit the top of the 689-foot Tour Montparnasse, France's tallest skyscraper. Does it surpass the view of Tour Eiffel? Not quite, (the Eiffel is taller), but it does give you a stunning view of the Parisian skyline with the Eiffel Tower.

Constructed from 1969 to 1972 it serves as offices on 59 floors and features a restaurant on the 56^th.

The Unveiling of Tour Saint Jacques

The beautiful Saint Jacques Tower has finally been unveiled. Built from 1508 to 1522, the gothic tower is part of the remains of the church Saint-Jacques-la-Boucherie that was demolished in 1797.

The tower has been under scaffolding for years as surveyors investigated the condition of the stone. Unfortunately, cracks were found, but remarkably, the stone dates to the tower's original construction, not from a 19^th-century restoration.

Pont Neuf at Sunset

French for "New Bridge", the Pont Neuf is the oldest standing bridge (1578) across the river Seine in Paris. An extensive restoration began in 1994 and was finally completed in 2007. Enhanced with new lighting to highlight its architectural features, no bridge in Paris could claim to be more beautiful.

Carnac Megaliths

The "French Stonehenge" located in Carnac, Brittany, is home to more than 3,000 prehistoric standing stones, or megaliths. Much like Stonehenge, their purpose is unclear, though a new theory suggests the location could be a burial ground.

The view is stunning, with Carnac megaliths stretching as far as the eye can see, some dating to 6,000 years old, (older than Stonehenge).

A Grand Theatre

Theatre du Chatelet is one of Paris' most famous theaters. Built in the middle of the 19th century, it was dedicated to the “opérette“, a kind of entertainment mixing songs, speeches and sometimes ballet.

Dancers like Nijinsky and Anna Pavlova and musicians like Stravinsky, Malher, Strauss, Tchaikovsky and Debussy have all performed there.

Parc des Buttes-Chaumont

Parc des Buttes-Chaumont was once the site of a gypsum quarry and was designated a park in the 1860's. Meandering paths, waterfalls, caves and a bridge, cheerfully named Pont des Suicides, are all features of the park.

For a visit to the oldest square in Paris, visit the Place des Vosges, built by Henry IV form 1605 to 1612. A true square, it embodied the first European idea of royal city planning.

St. Gervais et St. Protais

On the right bank of the Seine, tucked behind the Hôtel de Ville sits the stunning church of St. Gervais et St. Protais. This medieval structure houses the secrets of a great dynasty of French musicians: the organ played by Louis and François Couperin.

The church has been home to the organ since 1653 and was played by the Couperin family for nearly two hundred years.

Stained Glass of La Sainte-Chapelle

Louis IX built La Sainte-Chapelle to house precious relics from the Passion, including Christ's Crown of Thorns he'd bought from Baldwin II in 1239. In 1241, he added a piece of the true cross. During the French Revolution the relics were stolen.

The pious king was later granted sainthood by the Catholic Church.

As this stairway proves, the architecture at the Lourve is often just as stunning as the work on display. Famous Dutch artist Escher was no doubt inspired by the Lefuel staircase in the Richelieu aisle of the Louvre.

Escher is famous for his staircases to infinity, which seem to be going nowhere and everywhere all at once.

Les Invalides de Nuit

In Paris' 7th arrondissement sits the beautiful, historic building Les Invalides. It was built in 1674 to shelter wounded and veteran soldiers, and in 1676, a chapel was added (as seen in the dome at the center). Today the building still acts as a hospital and museum where visitors can view Napoleon's tomb.
